She matches the Avatars in psionic power with an Avatar form of her own. But what if the commander isn't actually Human? WebCapture man approaches through concealment. Then capture man and officer pop out for 2 attempts. You can't leave a high mobility engineer around an ethereal, so if the two attempts fail it has to die that turn. If the soldiers it might attack have 100 will or so psi lance doesn't deal too much damage on Normal at least (single digits).

WebAvatars have fancier tricks to pull, but Ethereals are just deadly and also bloody hard to kill. Honestly, ethereals have killed more of my guys, even though as you say Avatars have far more tricks.
